One should remember that all red eyes are not Madras eye. Red eyes commonly known as conjunctivitis can be due to infections, allergies, foreign bodies and chemicals. But redness  can occur due to UVEITIES, an inflammatory disorder of the eye involving iris, ciliary body and choroids. In this condition aqueoushumour water like liquid inside our eye turns into a sticky gum like material due to inflammation causing adhesions to Iris and the natural lens creating disturbance in the fluid moment, causing variation in the eye pressure and also toxic damage to cornea lens and retina. This should be recognized at an early stage and treated with appropriate medicines. More often people go to medical stores to buy an applicap or an eye drop to treat redness in the eye on their own with out coming to an eye doctor. Due to this delay they develop severe pain and blurring of vision and various intraocular problems. Only bio microscopic examination by slit lamp is useful in detecting this condition. People having Arthritis, Spondylitis, diabetes mellitus, infections else where in the body & following blunt trauma to the eyes can develop UVEITIES.
